India’s hopes of adding another judo medal at the Commonwealth Games 2026 ended in disappointment as Ishroop Narang narrowly missed out on a bronze medal in the women’s 78kg category.
Ishroop showed strong defensive discipline and tactical awareness to remain in contention after a difficult start. She fought her way through the repechage round and reached the bronze-medal contest, keeping India’s hopes alive.
However, despite repeated instructions and encouragement from the coaching staff, Ishroop could not find the breakthrough required in the medal bout. She lost a closely contested contest to Canada’s Coralie Godbout by yuko, ending her campaign just short of the podium.
Earlier, Ishroop had defeated Nicole Wood to advance to the quarter-finals. She then suffered a loss to England’s Emma Reid but remained in the medal race through the repechage route.
The defeat brought an emotional end to India’s judo campaign, although the team had already produced several memorable performances in Glasgow. India finished its judo campaign with four medals, including historic achievements by its leading judokas.
Asmita Dey won a landmark gold medal, while Harsh Singh also claimed gold. Yamini Mourya secured silver, and Unnati Sharma added a bronze medal to India’s tally.
Although Ishroop’s medal hopes ended in despair, her determined run to the bronze-medal contest underlined India’s growing strength and depth in judo.
