Official process begins after star athlete complains

NEW DELHI

World Athletics Vice-President Adille Sumariwalla confirmed that a formal investigation is underway following serious allegations made by Paralympic hero Sumit Antil. Antil, a two-time gold medalist, has accused javelin coach Naval Singh of mental harassment and the frequent use of abusive language.

The complaint has sent shockwaves through the sporting community, gaining significant weight after Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra came forward to back Antil’s claims. During an Athletics Federation of India (AFI) press conference, Sumariwalla acknowledged the report, stating that while the “matter is in process,” he would not comment further to avoid distracting from the day’s primary proceedings.

The Sports Authority of India (SAI) also clarified that while Naval Singh is not a direct employee, he is currently engaged by the AFI for the National Coaching Camp. SAI officials confirmed they are working closely with the federation to address the grievances raised by Antil and several other supporting athletes.

The situation has sparked a wider conversation about the treatment of India’s top sporting talent. Ace wrestler Vinesh Phogat took to social media to voice her frustration, criticizing the perceived silence of authorities when champions are disrespected. She questioned the dignity afforded to those who bring international glory to the country. As the investigation moves forward, the athletic community is watching closely, hoping for a resolution that ensures a safe and professional training environment for all competitors, regardless of their status or discipline.
