North region airports drive traffic also face fog

New Delhi

North India handles nearly 30 percent of the country’s air passenger traffic, an Airports Authority of India official said. The region also manages about 26 percent of aircraft movements, showing its growing importance. Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport remains the busiest hub. However, winter fog continues to disrupt flights, causing delays and cancellations, especially in early mornings. Officials use advanced landing systems, but very low visibility still creates problems. Meanwhile, airport expansion is underway in cities like Jodhpur, Udaipur, Leh, and Varanasi. Authorities are also improving passenger comfort and aiming for greener, more efficient airports by 2030.
