A new style of election campaigning has emerged in Tamil Nadu, with actor turned politician Vijay appearing as a 3D hologram to reach voters across constituencies.
The technology was first used in Kumbakonam on April 12, where a life sized digital projection of Vijay appeared alongside party candidate Vinoth Ravi. The hologram delivered a synchronised speech from a campaign vehicle, creating the impression that the leader was present in person and attracting large crowds.
Party leaders said the idea was introduced to manage the challenge of campaigning in more than 200 constituencies. They explained that it is not possible for Vijay to visit every location physically, so the hologram helps share his message widely.
The project was developed by Praveen K, a 20 year old student, who created a short AI based video that was turned into a hologram within three days. He said the technology has received strong interest from other political parties as well.
According to estimates, each hologram campaign may cost between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 3 lakh. Analysts believe this modern approach is aimed at attracting young voters and setting the party apart from traditional campaign methods used by others.
Meanwhile, Vijay continues limited physical campaigning and recently attended events in Kanyakumari. With elections scheduled on April 23 across all constituencies, parties are trying new strategies to connect with voters and increase their outreach effectively across the state.
