POCSO Case Filed against Viral Girl’s Husband

Bhopal

A case has been registered under the POCSO Act against Farman, husband of Monalisa, known as the “Mahakumbh viral girl,” after authorities confirmed she is a minor.

Khargone Police also invoked sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to criminal conspiracy and unlawful marriage, along with provisions of the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act. Officials said records show Monalisa was born on December 30, 2009, making her just over 16 at the time of her marriage on March 11.

Monalisa, from the Pardhi tribal community, had gained attention during the Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, where she was seen selling rudraksh garlands and became popular on social media. Investigations found the marriage took place in a Kerala temple using Aadhaar details.

However, authorities said the birth certificate used during registration was allegedly forged, showing a different date of birth. The National Commission for Scheduled Tribe has ordered its cancellation.

The panel has also raised concerns over possible involvement of certain individuals and organisations in arranging the marriage. Officials have called senior police officers from Kerala and Madhya Pradesh for further review and are seeking regular updates on the investigation.
