MIAMI
Alexander Zverev delivered a masterclass in power hitting, brushing aside Francisco Cerundolo 6-1, 6-2 to reach the Miami Open semifinals. The 27-year-old German was in unstoppable form, securing his place in the last four of both Indian Wells and Miami in the same season for the first time in his career.
Cerundolo entered the match with high confidence after upsetting Daniil Medvedev earlier in the week. However, the Argentine had no answers for Zverev’s relentless pace. The victory gives Zverev a 4-3 lead in their head-to-head series and marks his 25th appearance in an ATP Masters 1000 semifinal. Despite his dominance, Zverev remains cautious about his next opponent, stating that tomorrow will be his “toughest test” yet.
That test comes in the form of Jannik Sinner, who looks nearly invincible. Sinner earned his spot in the semifinals by racing past American Frances Tiafoe 6-2, 6-2. The Italian’s performance was statistically staggering, dropping only nine points on his serve and finishing with a near-perfect performance rating. Sinner is currently on a ten-match winning streak and is eyeing a historic “Sunshine Double”—winning both Indian Wells and Miami in the same year.
While Zverev is playing some of his best tennis, the history favors Sinner, who has won their last six encounters. As the hard-court season nears its end, all eyes are on this heavyweight clash to see if Zverev can finally halt Sinner’s march toward the record books.
