Yogish urges MLA Channabasappa to maintain public harmony

Regarding the Marnami Bail incident, Yogish said Harish’s attack was misrepresented communally online, truth emerged later, and criticized the MLA for reacting prematurely

SHIVAMOGGA
Congress Youth leader and former corporator H.C. Yogish has advised MLA S.N. Channabasappa to act responsibly and not disturb public harmony in Shivamogga city.

Speaking at a press conference held here on Friday, Yogish said that some leaders are making emotional statements without thinking about their impact on society. He said such statements create fear and confusion among people and disturb peace that the city has enjoyed for many years.

Referring to the recent disturbance in Marnami Bail area, Yogish said that an incident involving an attack on a person named Harish was wrongly given a communal angle on social media. He said the truth later came out, but by then damage had already been done. He criticised the MLA for reacting without waiting for full facts.

He said elected representatives should treat everyone equally, no matter their religion. They are not leaders of one community, but representatives of all people. He also said that Shivamogga is known for peaceful celebration of all festivals, including Ganesh festivals, and such harmony should not be disturbed for political gain.

Yogish further pointed out that recently a young man died in a road accident when a private bus hit him. He questioned why the MLA did not visit the victim’s family and show concern. He said leaders should stand with every family in times of pain, without discrimination.

He also spoke about the problem of ganja in the city. He said drug problems have nothing to do with religion. Anyone involved, no matter who they are, must be punished according to law. He added that law is above religion and politics.

Several Congress leaders and supporters, including Kalim Pasha and S.T. Chandrashekhar, were present at the press meet. They all appealed to the public to support peace and unity in Shivamogga.
