Pulse Polio vaccination drive in dist on Dec 21: DC

Pulse Polio drive on Dec 21 aims to vaccinate all under-five children in Chikkaballapur, with mobile teams ensuring full district coverage

Chikkaballapura

District Commissioner P.N. Ravindra announced that a Pulse Polio vaccination drive will be held on December 21 for all children aged 0–5 years across the district, regardless of previous vaccination status.

Speaking after chairing the District Task Force meeting on MR Elimination, Routine Immunization, and Pulse Polio programme at the DC’s conference hall on Wednesday, he said the target is to administer polio drops to approximately 1.22 lakh children below five years.

With the cooperation of Health, Women & Child Development, and other departments, every child in this age group will be covered. Special teams will visit booths on Dec 21, and on Dec 22–23, vaccination teams will go door-to-door, visit bus stands, crowded markets, and transit points to ensure no child is missed.

Measles-Rubella (MR) Vaccination

The second dose of MR vaccine (given between 16–24 months) provides 95% lifelong protection against measles and rubella. Parents must ensure children receive both doses on schedule and cooperate with health workers.

Dengue Awareness

Stagnant water around homes is the main reason dengue spreads. The disease is caused by the dengue virus transmitted through infected Aedes aegypti mosquitoes that breed in clean stagnant water in drums, barrels, cement tanks, pots, coconut shells, discarded bottles, and tyres. These mosquitoes bite during the daytime.

Symptoms include sudden high fever, severe headache, pain behind the eyes, severe joint and muscle pain, nausea, rashes, and bleeding from nose/gums or under the skin. There is no specific medicine or vaccine for dengue. Immediate medical attention from experts and treatment at the nearest government hospital is essential if symptoms appear.

District Health & Family Welfare Officer Dr. Mahesh Kumar, Deputy Director of Women & Child Development Department Venkatesh D., District AYUSH Officer Tabu Bhanu, taluk health officers, and other officials were present.
