De Minaur wins, Rublev out of Shanghai

Shanghai

Alex de Minaur moved into the third round of the Shanghai Masters after beating Camilo Ugo 6-4, 6-2 on Saturday. The Australian star bounced back from a tough semifinal loss earlier this week to Jannik Sinner at the China Open. That defeat marked his 11th straight loss to the Italian.

Other matches saw big surprises. Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka upset 13th seed Andrey Rublev in three sets: 2-6, 6-1, 6-4. Meanwhile, 12th seed Felix Auger-Aliassime had an easy win against Alejandro Tabilo, finishing 6-3, 6-3. Kamil Majchrzak also impressed, beating 29th seed Brandon Nakashima 6-4, 6-0.

Top players like Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner had first-round byes. Sinner, fresh from winning the China Open, was set to play Germany’s Daniel Altmaier later Saturday.

World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz will not compete in Shanghai due to minor injuries. He made the announcement after winning the Japan Open last week.

Fans are watching closely as the tournament heats up, with many top seeds still in the mix.
