Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra trekked deep into the Karulai forests in Wayanad to meet the Cholanaykkar tribal community, listening to their concerns and assuring support, a party release said on Wednesday. She was briefed about the forest and tribal issues by C Vinod, a tribal community member pursuing a PhD in Tribal Economy, who had earlier highlighted their challenges during her poll campaign.
Following the visit, Priyanka brought community representatives to the Forest Department’s Inspection Bungalow to discuss demands related to housing and bridges. She held talks with forest officials and local workers engaged with the tribal population to understand their needs better.
Later, she visited the Nilambur teak depot, exploring the museum and inquiring about its activities. Priyanka also assessed development work at Nilambur Railway Station and discussed projects like the Vaniyambalam Railway flyover, station renovations, and other local railway needs.
During the day, she visited the proposed site of the Padinjarathara–Poozhithodu road at Kottiyamvayal, sharing a video on X. She noted that the new road, developed with the District Collector, Forest Officer, and PWD engineers, would serve as an alternative to the Thamarassery Ghat Road, improving connectivity across Wayanad district.
Priyanka’s visit highlighted her focus on addressing tribal concerns, assessing infrastructure projects, and engaging directly with local authorities to bring developmental changes to her constituency.
