The Andhra Pradesh Assembly session, which commenced on Thursday, is scheduled to continue until September 30, with holidays on September 20, 21, and 28. The House will function daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., as decided by the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) chaired by Speaker Ayyanna Patrudu.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, along with Legislative Affairs Minister Pyyavula Keshav and Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar, attended the BAC meeting. The ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) proposed 18 issues for discussion, while the BJP suggested nine. The Chief Minister instructed ministers to be present during question hour and zero hour.

The BAC approved a schedule for discussions on key topics: GST reforms later this week, water resources on September 19, law and order on September 22, public health on September 23, industry on September 24, Super-6 on September 25, Quantum Valley on September 26, logistics on September 27, Swarnandhra on September 29, and development of Rayalaseema, coastal Andhra, and north Andhra on September 30.

The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), the sole opposition, skipped the BAC meeting, continuing its boycott over the demand for Leader of Opposition (LoP) status for its leader and former Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. Jagan stated that attending the Assembly without proper LoP recognition is pointless, as it limits the opposition’s ability to raise public issues. He noted that the LoP matter is pending in the High Court following his petition filed in July last year.

The Legislative Council session also began on Thursday, marking the start of a busy legislative period in Andhra Pradesh.
