KPCC General Secretary Kripa Alva questioned the inaction on the part of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) in the alleged sexual assault of a minor Dalit girl by five persons in the district. Alva, who is former Chairperson of the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KSCPCR), told media persons that she visited the house of the survivor to extend all support, including her rehabilitation. The minor girl, who hails from a poor family, is a Class 10 dropout. Further, the family is in dire need of a house. I will speak to the Ministers concerned for the education of the girl and for a new house for the family. She needs counselling and should be sent back to school. Police have recorded her statement and they have already arrested five accused in the case, Alva said. She questioned the silence of the BJP, ABVP and Sangh Parivar on the incident. MLAs and MPs held protests in connection with the case of a mobile camera placed in the washroom of an Udupi college. ABVP held a protest in front of Home Minister G Parameshwara’s house. National Commission for Women (NCW) member Khushbu Sundar visited Udupi, but no one from the Commission arrived to inquire about the rape of the Dalit girl by five men. Similarly, they are also silent on a case of voyeurism reported in the City Police limits. In all these cases, the accused are Hindus. They would have held protests if the accused were from another faith, she said, adding that people will understand the politics that the BJP is playing through the Udupi incident.
