Book On Fr Jerome Will Be Released

A book titled Pride of Kanara, True Son of India, Fr Jerome D’Souza SJ will be released on Monday, informed Fr Praveen Martis, Principal of St Aloysius College. The book is authored by Edmund Frank, dean PGDBM, St Aloysius College. Fr Martis, told media persons that Ronald Fernandes, member of Karnataka Public Service Commission, sponsored the book. Fr D’Souza was a member of the Constituent Assembly of India and was known as one of the architects of the Indian Constitution. He played a major role in the debates on minority rights and fundamental rights. He is a signatory to the original copy of the Constitution of India. He was also a member of the first interim Parliament in 1952. Frank, the author of the book, said that Fr D’Souza was appointed as a member of the India delegation to the United Nations Organisation general assembly four times from 1949 to 1957. He also once led the delegation. The Union government honoured Fr D’Souza by issuing a commemorative postage stamp of Rs 2, on his birth centenary year in December 1997.
