Over 50 Houses Damaged Due To Heavy Rains, Subramanya-Manjeswara Highway Closed

Due to incessant rains in the district since Saturday night, rivers and streams in the district are overflowing and flowing above the danger level. More than 50 houses have been damaged so far due to rain and wind. More than 300 electricity poles have been damaged. More than 10 transformers have been damaged. While the horticulture crops have been uprooted, the paddy crop has been washed away due to the flooding of rivers.

More than 50 people have been shifted to five care centres opened by the district administration. The water level of Kumaradhara river is rising due to incessant rains. Kumaradhara Bathing Ghat at Kukke Subramanya is completely submerged. Devotees of the temple have been instructed not to go for a holy dip in the river water. Police and home guards are guarding the bathing ghat to prevent devotees from entering the bathing ghat.

The Subramanya-Manjeswara highway near Kumaradhara has been flooded and the road traffic has been blocked due to flood water. The farms on the banks of the Darpana Theertha river have been inundated with water. A team of home guards and SDRF have been deployed at the spot after people and vehicles were cut off due to waterlogging on the road on Sunday.

A total of eight people, including a pregnant woman and two children, who had come to the Kukke Subramanya temple   were affected. The SDRF team managed to safely cross 8 people by boat on the waterlogged state highway and bring them home.

Due to heavy rains in the Western Ghats region, Netravati, Phalguni river and its tributaries have been flooded and many low-lying areas and arecanut plantations have been inundated. Netravathi river is flowing above the danger level in Bantwal and Uppinangady. With the help of panchayat and police personnel, locals with the help of panchayat and police personnel lifted the pick-up vehicle which was stuck at Kantakodi in Kedila village of Bantwal taluk after a bridge was submerged due to heavy rains.
