On the occasion of the World Anti-Drug Abuse and Trafficking Day, the city police collected and destroyed 2,117 kg of drugs worth 21 crores. 2,053 kg of ganja, 9 kg of hashish, 12 kg of opium, 9 kg of charas, 568 grams of cocaine, 13 grams of heroin, 5 kg of MDMA, which were seized in special operations in different parts of the city, were destroyed after obtaining court order. From January 2022 to June 2023, 6,191 cases have been registered against the transportation and sale of drugs. In this connection, 7,723 Indians, 159 foreigners were arrested and Rs. 6,261 kg of drugs worth Rs 117 crore have been seized. Commissioner of Police B. Dayanand said that 4,397 kg of drugs worth Rs.92 crore were destroyed as part of the conference on ‘Drug Traffic and National Security’ held in Bangalore recently. Also, police officials and personnel visited 388 schools, 253 colleges and 51 vocational colleges and worked to create awareness among more than 1.73 lakh students about the ill effects of drugs and the NDPS Act.
