An incident took place in Ramamurthy Nagar where thieves, who had stolen a bore well pipe and escaped, were caught by the locals and confessed to the police. A contractor of BBMP removed the motor and long pipe of the borewell which was standing still. Then they left the pipe outside and took the motor for repairs. Noticing this, Thieves came on a bike, took the pipe and sold it to a scrap dealer. Kochu Shankar, a member of the Trinity Enclave Residents’ Association, noticed the theft of the pipe and informed other locals. About 100 families in this area are using water from bore well. It was our source of water. The BBMP contractor had removed the 15 feet pipe and left it outside. After removing the pipe, he did not come back for several days. We are struggling with water problem. Shankar said that most of the local residents used to spend time in the playground in the evening when the pipe was stolen. In the wake of the theft of the pipe, we checked the local CCTV footage. Later we complained to the police. Then we visited the local scrap shops. A few pieces of pipe were found lying near a shop in NRI Layout. When I inquired, two people gave me a pipe, I bought it for Rs. 3,000 and I gave Rs. 1,500. He said that he would give the rest of the money. After the statement of the shop owner, the local residents waited near the shop the next day to catch Thieves and finally caught Thieves. Police were informed after catching the thieves. Shankar said that the police reached the spot within 40 minutes and took both of them into custody.
