BBMP Ward Redistribution Exercise: No Creation Of More Wards

Must read

BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath said that the number of wards will not be increased in the re-allocation exercise of BBMP wards, which is yet to be launched. It will be limited to 243 wards only. Speaking to reporters, he said that only the boundaries of the wards will be revised in the division of wards. It also includes voter information as per the Election Commission. He said BBMP will work as directed by the government and Election Commission. He said that changing the name of the wards is a decision of the government and it has nothing to do with BBMP. It will be decided when it comes, he said. Commenting on the irregularities in the delimitation process, Tushar Girinath said these are just rumours, there is no truth in them, the court’s directions will be followed in the process of redistribution of wards. He said that since no census will be held in 2021 or thereafter, reservation will be allotted as per 2011 census. Talking about the encroachment clearance operation before the monsoon season, Girinath said that BBMP is working with the Revenue Department to make canals for smooth flow of water. But if the flow of water to the drains and lakes is still obstructed, the Disaster Management Act will be implemented and the prescribed rules will be followed, he said. Encroachment inspection and temporary bypass construction work has to be done at 118 places. So far it has been done at around 50 places in Yalahanka, Dasarahalli and East Bengaluru areas.
