Congress Spokesperson Arrested For Remarks Against Mamata Banerjee

West Bengal Congress spokesperson Kaustav Bagchi was arrested on Saturday morning from his residence for his alleged remarks against West Bengal Chief Minister (CM) Mamata Banerjee. He had made the alleged derogatory comments against CM on a private television show. Soon after the comments were made, a complaint was lodged against Bagchi at Burtolla police station on Friday. According to a senior police official, the arrest was made by around 3.30 am on Saturday morning.

A huge team of the city’s Burtolla police station conducted a raid at Bagchi’s residence at Barrackpore in North 24 Parganas district in West Bengal and arrested him, a senior police official said. After the arrest, Bagchi was brought to Burtolla Police Station and Congress workers staged a protest in front of the police station. The Congress had demanded immediate release of the leader. Bagchi has been reportedly booked under several sections of the IPC including 120(B) (criminal conspiracy), 504 intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace, and 506 criminal intimidation.
