Future ICT for Sustainable Cities Forum reaffirmed collaboration to solve the urban sustainability challenges

Every year, leaders in urban sustainability convene at this Forum to present and discuss new strategic initiatives and technology-based solutions that can assist future cities in better adopting new models of sustainability. The four themes were Future Tech, Future Health, Future Mobility and Future Proptech. The one day forum fostered new partnerships and innovative collaborations which are key in supporting sustainable cities of the future.

Collaboration with the government, academia and other societies has always been imperative for businesses. This hybrid event brought together 300 delegates on the 17th of March 2022 and saw representation from a variety of Multinationals, Sustainability driven startups, thought leaders of urban issues and sustainability, foreign trade representatives, decision-makers from the government and others.

The Additional Chief Secretary to Government of Karnataka, IT/BT, Dr E.V. Ramana Reddy, spoke during the inauguration of the Forum. He explained how sustainable development involved equitable development and that the Government of Karnataka was actively investing in cities and towns apart from Bangalore. Anjum Parvez, the MD of BMRCL was also present and explained how approximately 40% of the city’s GreenHouse Gases come from the transport sector and in line with this, the Bengaluru metro has emerged as the lifeline of the city.

Also present at the inaugural session were Mr Friedrich Birgelen, Deputy Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany, Bengaluru; and Ambika Banotra who is the Chief Representative of NRW Global Business, India. Ms. Banotra also introduced various innovative and emerging technology developments from North Rhine Westphalia.

Citylity CEO Shampa Ganguly announced the launch of their End to end trip planning Platform for Bengaluru. Citility analyses multiple commute options and suggests commuters with the best, safest or the most sustainable options to reach the destination. It provides people with vital information such as estimated arrival time and the amount you’ll be spending on your commute. The Citility app now available on Google and Apple stores uses AI, advanced analytics and leverages open data from various mobility players like BMRCL, BMTC and cab aggregators.

In the Future Health track, Chandrakanth B.N, founder and chairman of Pairee Group, explained how technology has begun to play a huge role in the healthcare sector.
