A state-of-the-art Chemical Laboratory has been set up at the National Test House (NTH) in Ghaziabad to boost testing of key materials used in construction, packaging, and consumer products, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs announced on Sunday. The lab will be inaugurated on September 10 by Union Minister Pralhad Joshi.
The facility will test packaged and mineral water, food packaging, enamelled wires, coal, petroleum coke, bitumen, paints, anti-skid products, filtration media, and even chalk. It will also ensure quality and safety for construction materials, cement, metals, plastics, fertilizers, and organic products.
Accredited under ISO/IEC 17025:2017 by the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL), the lab holds approvals from BIS, FSSAI, and the Fertilizer (Control) Order, 1985. Officials said this strengthens its credibility for both industry and consumers.
Equipped with modern instruments like Atomic Absorption Spectrometer, Inductively Coupled Plasma–Atomic Emission Spectroscopy, Optical Emission Spectrometer, Gas Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry, High-Performance Liquid Chromatography, and Ion Chromatograph, the facility promises highly accurate testing across multiple sectors.
Beyond testing, the lab will also serve as a hub for training, research, and collaborations with universities, engineering colleges, and industries, supporting India’s broader scientific and industrial ecosystem. Plans are underway to expand services to fortified food products like wheat flour, refined flour, edible oils, and salt enriched with vitamins A and D. Testing of spices and micronutrient analysis in food products will also be added, contributing to public health and food safety.
Established in 1977, NTH Ghaziabad has long been a trusted institution for calibration and testing. With this new chemical laboratory, it aims to further strengthen quality assurance, safety, and compliance for industries and consumers.
