There Is No Need For A Ropeway For Chamundi Hill: Minister ST Somashekhar

Cooperation and District In-charge Minister ST Somashekar said that people’s representatives and officials expressed the opinion that there is no need for a ropeway to Chamundi Hill.

 Speaking to media persons after the meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference  hall about tourism development in the district, the minister said that the chief minister had proposed a ropeway to Chamundi hill in the budget. In this regard, in the meeting held today, the participants have  expressed their  opinion opposing the rope way. This will be brought to the attention of the Chief Minister, the minister said.

The devotees visit the hill to get darshan of Chamundeshwari and get her grace. Most of the people who come here are devotees. The minister said that the opinion was expressed that there is no need for a ropeway as they have been provided with sufficient facilities to go to the hill.

Devotees will arrive at the hill in larger numbers than tourists. Access to the hill is facilitated on foot and by vehicles. People in the meeting said that there is no need for ropeway as there is a good road. He informed that only those who came from the tourism association were in favor of the ropeway.

This is a religious center, not an adventurous spot.  There are many tourist places in Mysore. The hill is not a tourist spot. It was also mentioned in the meeting about cleanliness in the hills and curbing the construction of houses.  The people have asked for formation of Chamundi Hill Development Authority in line with Male Mahadeshwaraswamy Area Development Authority.  This also will be brought to the attention of the Chief Minister, Somashekar said.

The development of the collapsed road on the Nandi Marg of Chamundi hill has been started today. It is suggested to carryout quality work, he said.

Somanathpur Temple is recommended for inclusion in the UNESCO list. It was discussed to take up infrastructure development work at a cost of Rs. 3.74 crore.   Taking up infrastructure development work at Periyapatna at a cost of Rs. 2.15 crore under urban development project, was also discussed in the meeting. 

MP Pratap Sinha, MLAs GT Deve Gowda, Ashwin Kumar, Mayor Sunanda Palanetra, MUDA President Rajeev, Deputy Commissioner Dr  Bagadi Gautam, Commissioner of Police Dr. Chandragupta, Zilla Panchayat CEO Poornima, and officers of various government departments participated.
