BENGALURU
The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Bengaluru and 12 south interior districts, forecasting widespread rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds over the next three days.
According to the advisory, districts including Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Mysuru, Mandya, Hassan, Kodagu and Chikkamagaluru are likely to witness moderate to heavy rainfall at isolated places, accompanied by lightning and winds of 30–40 kmph.
Residents have been advised to remain indoors during intense spells, avoid open areas during lightning and secure loose objects that could be displaced by strong winds. Authorities have also cautioned people to stay alert near weak structures and trees, and to watch for waterlogging in low-lying areas.
Light to moderate rainfall is also expected in parts of coastal and north interior Karnataka. Dakshina Kannada may receive intermittent showers, while Udupi and Uttara Kannada could see mixed weather conditions.
Further, IMD forecasts indicate that between May 7 and 8, rainfall activity may extend to north Karnataka districts such as Belagavi, Dharwad and Haveri, with chances of showers in Bidar, Kalaburagi and Raichur as well.
Farmers and outdoor workers have been advised to plan activities cautiously, keeping in mind the possibility of thunderstorms and gusty winds in the coming days.
