MLA urged project expansion to reduce borewell dependence, improve agriculture, ensure balanced water distribution, and support farmers’ needs

MLA KC Virendra Pappi met Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in Bengaluru and appealed for inclusion of eight lakes from his constituency in the Bhadra Upper Bank Project. He said Kurubarahatti, Katihalli, Siddapur, Manangi, Hullur, Thimmannanayakana, Nandipur and Annehalu lakes should be added to the irrigation plan. He explained that the current DPR includes limited lakes and leaves out many villages in Chitradurga taluk.
He also noted that some nearby lakes are already part of other irrigation projects and cannot serve all farmers. The MLA said including these eight lakes will help improve groundwater levels and support drinking water supply for people and livestock. He requested the Chief Minister to take immediate action and ensure rural communities get equal irrigation benefits under the project.
Farmers and villagers have long demanded inclusion of these lakes for better water security in the region. According to the MLA, the project expansion will also reduce dependence on borewells and improve agriculture. He urged officials to consider the proposal positively and address the long pending demand of the constituency. The appeal highlights the need for balanced water distribution across all villages in Chitradurga taluk. He also stressed that filling these lakes will benefit both farmers and residents by improving irrigation and drinking water access.
The Chief Minister received the memorandum and assured that the matter would be reviewed by the concerned departments soon. Local leaders and farmers welcomed the appeal and hoped for early approval of the irrigation expansion plan. This step, they said, will bring long term water security and development to rural Chitradurga region areas and villages.
