The Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said that state governments must give utmost priority to provide clean drinking water and toilets under the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM).
Shekhawat who was in Bengaluru reviewing Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) and Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) along with six state and two union territories ministers here, said that people are entitled to get clean drinking water and toilets.
“No state government can afford to shirk away from this responsibility. The union government has collectively released Rs 20,487.58 crore under JJM scheme and Rs 1355.13 crore under SBM scheme to six states – Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Telnagana and Madhya Pradesh and two union territories – Puducheri and Laksadweep besides Rs 7,798 crore under tide-in grant scheme during this fiscal year,” he explained.
Lauding Karnataka Chief minister, Basavaraj Bommai, the union minister said that Karnataka had given utmost priority to supply clean drinking water projects.
“He (Bommai) has taken lead in allocating Rs 7000 crore for completing drinking water projects in the state,” he said.
