District Magistrate G. Prabhu warned officials to secure open borewells, prevent accidents, address drinking water shortages, and ensure coordinated action under the Jal Jeevan Mission
CHIKKABALLAPURA
District Magistrate G. Prabhu has issued a strong warning to officials to prevent accidents caused by open borewells and ensure public safety across the district.
Speaking at the Disaster Management Authority meeting held at the District Collector’s Office, he said that no negligence will be tolerated if any child or person falls into uncovered tube wells. He directed officials to immediately close unused or dry borewells and take safety measures.
He also highlighted the growing drinking water problem, stating that the district may face shortages for the next three to four months until the monsoon arrives. He instructed taluk officials and engineers under the Jal Jeevan Mission to act quickly and work in coordination.
Drinking water is currently being supplied to 23 villages through private borewells, and 66 more villages may face shortages soon. In urban areas, 14 wards are already facing problems, and the situation may worsen in 21 wards.
Officials were told to arrange water supply by connecting borewells to electricity and installing motor pumps wherever water is available. If not, borewells must be safely sealed without delay.
The District Magistrate expressed concern over delays by project engineers and warned of strict disciplinary action against those responsible for lapses.
He also asked authorities to work with private borewell owners and tanker operators to manage the situation effectively.
The meeting was attended by senior officials from police, health, and various departments, who were instructed to take preventive steps and ensure there is no risk to public safety or water supply in the coming days.
