Women protest alleged scam in name of central schemes in Raichur

Raichur

Hundreds of women staged a protest in Raichur, claiming they were cheated by a private firm operating in the name of Central government schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma and PM SVANidhi.

The demonstration took place near the Zilla Panchayat office, where the company, Aero Global, was running its operations from a private building. Many women had travelled from villages across the district to raise their grievances, accusing the firm of making false promises about scheme benefits.

According to the women, company representatives contacted them saying they had been selected as beneficiaries and would receive sewing machines. They were asked to visit the office and open bank accounts, but were allegedly made to pay ₹400 each before any official procedures were completed.

“We were told we would get sewing machines, but they collected money and kept delaying the process. Now they say they have nothing to do with it,” said one protesting woman. Many reported repeated visits to the office over months, receiving only vague assurances. Tensions boiled over Wednesday when the women demanded clarity and were allegedly asked to leave, triggering the protest.

The incident has raised serious concerns about misuse of government schemes, particularly against rural women who may not be aware of official procedures.

The protesting women submitted a complaint to District Magistrate Nitish K., seeking justice and action against the firm. Responding promptly, the District Administration formed an inquiry team led by Assistant Commissioner Dr. Hampanna Sajjan. Officials inspected the office, seized documents, and temporarily sealed the premises. Authorities confirmed that a detailed investigation is underway and that illegal collection of money in the name of government schemes could attract strict legal action.

Meanwhile, the affected women continue to demand a refund and strict punishment for those responsible. The case highlights the urgent need for public awareness and stricter monitoring to prevent fraudulent practices in the name of welfare programmes, ensuring that government schemes benefit the people they are meant to help.
