Puttanna highlighted ignored 2023 orders for Patil’s office, with BJP and ruling party leaders calling the Deputy Commissioner accountable and demanding immediate action

A controversy erupted in the Legislative Council over the alleged failure to allot an official office to Congress MLC Bhimrao Patil in Bidar district even after four-and-a-half years of his tenure. The issue drew sharp reactions from members across party lines, prompting Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti to direct the Bidar Deputy Commissioner to appear before him. Raising the matter at the start of the session, Congress member Puttanna strongly objected to the delay, stating that despite serving as a Council member for over four years, Bhimrao Patil had not been provided an office by the district administration. He alleged that the Deputy Commissioner had ignored recommendations made by the Privileges Committee regarding the allotment.

Puttanna further pointed out that in 2023, the Chairman’s office had issued a letter directing authorities to provide an office to Patil. Additionally, the Privileges Committee, which had met in Bidar, had also instructed the officials to ensure the same. Despite these directions, no action had been taken so far, he said, demanding that the Deputy Commissioner be summoned before the House and held accountable.

Supporting the demand, BJP member Sunil Valyapur termed the issue “shameful” and urged immediate action against the concerned officials. Chief Whip of the ruling party, Saleem Ahmed, also expressed concern, stating that the delay amounted to an insult not only to Bhimrao Patil but to the entire House. Speaking on the issue, Bhimrao Patil said he had written to the Deputy Commissioner three times requesting an office in Aurad taluk of Bidar district to facilitate public service, but no action had been taken. He termed the situation as an insult to him and the institution.

Leader of the House N.S. Boseraju assured that appropriate action would be initiated through the Chief Secretary. Meanwhile, Chairman Basavaraj Horatti directed the Bidar Deputy Commissioner to personally appear before his office in connection with the matter.
