China’s vice-foreign min attends BRICS Sherpa Meet

China’s BRICS Sherpa and Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu attended the first BRICS Sherpa meeting in New Delhi.

The meeting focused on strengthening BRICS cooperation and preparing for the 18th BRICS Summit. Ma highlighted President Xi Jinping’s vision for high-quality development within BRICS, emphasizing peace, innovation, green development, justice, and closer people-to-people exchanges.

Chinese Ambassador Xu Feihong said China is ready to work with India, the BRICS chair for 2026, and other member countries to deepen practical cooperation, improve working mechanisms, and uphold international fairness. Participants exchanged views on key priorities for BRICS cooperation and discussed major events planned for the year.

India’s BRICS Sherpa, Sudhakar Dalela, outlined the country’s priorities based on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, focusing on a “people-centric” and “humanity-first” approach, under the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.”

Belarus participated as a partner country for the first time, represented by Ambassador M. Kasko. He conveyed a message from Belarus President expressing confidence that India’s chairmanship will mark a year of new achievements and further progress for BRICS, strengthening its role as a major global organization.

The meeting highlighted BRICS’ shared commitment to collaboration, innovation, and sustainability, aiming to bring development, fairness, and stronger multilateral ties among member and partner countries.
