Vegetable prices zoom due to heavy pre-monsoon showers

Pre-monsoon showers have pushed up vegetable prices all over the state. Due to crop damage resulting from heavy rainfall, tomato prices have zoomed to Rs 75 a kilo and are likely to touch Rs 100 a kilo while prices of other vegetable prices are also getting costlier.
Rains have played spoilsport to the produce and farmers are affected by crop damage.
Tomato crops have been washed away due to the rains and thus farmers are facing huge losses. The high prices of tomato and other vegetables have hit the household budgets. Prices of Beans and green vegetables have skyrocketed. Green vegetables which were available for Rs 15-20 a bundle now costs Rs 40-50 a bundle.
Prices of tomatoes which are hovering at Rs 70 a kilo are likely to cross Rs 100 a kilo and the quality of the yield is not all that good. Prices of carrot, capsicum, drumstick, ridge gourd and other vegetables have also risen substantially.
Beans are now sold at Rs 107 a kilo, while capsicum is sold at Rs 68 a kilo. Cabbage is available for Rs 20 a kilo while drumstick now costs Rs 87 a kilo. Coriander leaves is available for Rs 74 a bundle while fenugreek costs Rs 167 a bundle.
