The India Open Competition in Shotgun, organized by the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), began on Wednesday, attracting 329 shooters from across the country. This event is crucial for athletes aiming to qualify for the National Championship.
The competition is divided into two categories: the National Rules (NR) category, for athletes who have not yet qualified for the Nationals, and the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) category, for those who have already secured their spots. This division creates a competitive environment, offering emerging talents the chance to compete alongside established professionals.
Out of the 329 participants, 221 are in the NR category, while 108 are in the ISSF category. Notable athletes in the competition include former Olympian Kynan Chenai, along with international shooters such as Bhowneesh Mendiratta, Zorawar Singh Sandhu, Manisha Keer, and Aashima Ahlawat.
For these elite shooters, the India Open serves as an essential training platform, allowing them to refine their skills in preparation for the National Championship and upcoming international events.
NRAI President Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo expressed excitement about the tournament’s importance, stating, “This event not only provides a qualification pathway for the National Championship but also offers a competitive platform for our shooters to test their skills.” The tournament is set to conclude on December 2, promising a thrilling finish.
