The fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has regained the number one spot in the ICC Men’s Test Bowling Rankings on Wednesday after leading India to a dominant 295-run victory over Australia in the first Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test in Perth. Bumrah’s eight-wicket performance, including a five-wicket haul in the first innings, earned him the Player of the Match award and propelled him past South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada and Australia’s Josh Hazlewood.
Bumrah has reached a career-high 883 rating points, the best-ever achieved by an Indian fast bowler. This marks his third time at the top this year, having previously held the position in February and October.
Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal also had a stellar performance, scoring a brilliant 161 in the second innings. This helped him rise to a career-best second place in the batters’ list, with a rating of 825, only 78 points behind the top-ranked Joe Root of England.
India’s Virat Kohli, with his 30th Test century, moved up nine spots to 13th, while KL Rahul’s 77 helped him climb to 49th. Newcomer Nitish Kumar Reddy made an impressive debut, entering the rankings at 74th place after scoring 41 and an unbeaten 38. Meanwhile, Australia’s Travis Head moved to 10th, and left-arm pacer Mitchell Marsh made significant progress in the bowler’s list, climbing 10 spots to 68th.
