Pakistan’s fast bowlers Ahmed Daniyal and Shahnawaz Dahani have been ruled out of the ongoing ODI series against Zimbabwe due to injuries, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed on Wednesday. Both players will return home for further treatment and rehabilitation.
Daniyal has sustained a hamstring injury, while Dahani has suffered a left ankle injury during a training session. After initial scans and assessments, it was determined that they would not be able to continue with the series.
The PCB announced that Daniyal and Dahani will be replaced by fast bowler Abbas Afridi and all-rounder Jahandad Khan. Both replacements are expected to join the squad in Bulawayo and be available for selection in Thursday’s decider.
Daniyal, who was uncapped at the time of selection, will be replaced by Aamir Jamal for the T20I series against Zimbabwe, which will take place from December 1 to 5. Pakistan had a mixed start to the ODI series, with Zimbabwe winning the rain-affected first match by 80 runs under the DLS method. Pakistan made a strong comeback in the second ODI with a ten-wicket victory, thanks to a stellar century by opener Saim Ayub.
Both Daniyal and Dahani will report to the National Cricket Academy upon their return to Lahore for rehabilitation, with hopes to return to competitive cricket soon.
