The Lokayukta organisation accords top priority to solving the problems of the people and help them lead a decent and dignified life, said Upalokayukta Justice KN Phaneendra.
Speaking at a meeting to listen to the grievances of the people held by the Karnataka Lokayukta at the Zilla Panchayat meeting hall, he said every citizen has the right to a decent, dignified life, and to use natural resources in permissible limits. At the same time, citizens have an obligation of performing their duties as specified in the Constitution. Lokayukta oversees that the things are in place, he asserted.
Justice Phaneendra said that Lokayukta while recommending stringent punishment for the errant public servants, will also take measures to protect honest and sincere public servants. There is punishment for those filing false complaints against the public servants and trying to trouble them unnecessarily, he said.
Stressing the importance of the Lokayukta organisation, he said everyone should know the Lokayukta Act, particularly sections 7,8 and 9. Section 17 provides Lokayukta the powers of a high court, he asserted.
Justice Phaneendra received petitions from the aggrieved persons and directed the officials concerned to look into the grievances and take necessary steps within legal framework to address the problems. Deputy Commissioner Divya Prabhu and other district level officials were present. Justice Phaneendra delivered a special lecture on the Karnataka Lokayukta Act, at a meeting attended by the employees of state government departments.
