The police have escalated their investigation into the tragic murder-suicide in Pakshikere, where Karthik Bhat allegedly killed his wife, Priyanka, and their son, Hriday, before taking his own life. Authorities have seized the mobile phones of both Karthik and Priyanka, along with two knives found at their apartment.
Following a complaint by Priyanka’s mother, Savithri, the police arrested Karthik’s mother, Shyamala, and his elder sister, Kanmani. Savithri, who is from Purale village in Shivamogga, claimed that Shyamala and Kanmani had been pressuring Karthik to vacate the apartment, which is registered in Kanmani’s husband’s name. The family had been facing tension over the living arrangements for the past two years.
The arrested women were presented at the Moodbidri court and ordered into judicial custody. However, both felt unwell during the process and were admitted to a local hospital. Meanwhile, the police searched the apartment and requested Karthik’s family to vacate it for further inspection.An FIR filed in the case revealed that Karthik had been under continuous harassment from his mother, who allegedly refused to speak with her grandson. CCTV footage shows Karthik walking near a temple with a hand injury, suspected to be from the violence.
