Chadian forces killed at least 96 Boko Haram militants and injured 11 others during a clearance operation in the Lake Chad region. The operation, which took place on Saturday, also resulted in 15 Chadian soldiers killed and 32 wounded. In addition, troops seized weapons and equipment. Army spokesman General Issakh Acheikh confirmed the operation was ongoing and assured that the situation was under control. The operation, named Haskanite, was launched after Boko Haram attacked a military base on Barkaram island in late October, killing over 40 Chadian soldiers. Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno stated that the goal of the operation was to drive Boko Haram militants out of the Lake Chad area.
