New Delhi
Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena approved the recruitment of 1,463 healthcare workers, including 701 nurses and 762 paramedical staff, through public sector undertakings (PSUs). The move aims to strengthen the city’s healthcare system and ease the burden on existing medical staff. These new hires will be employed on an outsourced basis, under a relaxed recruitment process, to address staffing shortages in hospitals.
This decision follows recommendations from the Dr. S K Sarin Committee, which was formed after the Delhi High Court raised concerns about the city’s healthcare infrastructure. In February, the court directed the Delhi government to address the inadequacy of resources, particularly hospital beds and medical personnel, to meet the growing population’s needs.
The court had highlighted the need for significant investment and reforms in government hospitals, which had suffered from long-term neglect. The Sarin Committee, in response, identified severe shortages in nursing and paramedical staff as a major obstacle to providing quality healthcare. To resolve this, the committee recommended recruiting outsourced personnel immediately to improve patient care and fill the staffing gap in Delhi’s healthcare facilities.
This recruitment drive is expected to improve the quality of healthcare services in the city, ensuring a more effective response to the growing demands on Delhi’s medical system.
