Speaker UT Khader has called for a thorough investigation into the fatal road accident on the Thokkottu-Chembugudde road and demanded action against officials responsible for the road’s poor condition.
The incident, which took place on Saturday, resulted in the death of 47-year-old Rahamat H Rashid, a pillion rider. The scooter she was riding on skidded, and she fell onto the road, where she was tragically run over by a tanker truck.
Khader, who is currently attending the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association meeting in Sydney, expressed his sorrow and extended condolences to the family of the victim. He had earlier allocated Rs 30 crore for the road’s development, and the tender process had been completed. However, the work was delayed due to rainfall. Khader emphasized that it was the responsibility of Public Works Department (PWD) officials to fix road potholes after every rainy season. Reports of the road’s poor condition had led him to order repairs just hours before the accident.
Following the incident, Khader directed senior PWD officials to investigate the case and take necessary action. He also thanked the youth from Ullal who helped at the scene of the accident.
In response to the accident, the DYFI Ullal taluk committee held a protest. Committee president Nithin Kuthar criticized the lack of proper infrastructure and warned of further protests if the road is not repaired within a week.
