Newly appointed Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has acknowledged the steep challenge he faces as he prepares to start his role with the English club from Monday. After concluding his time with Sporting CP in a 4-2 win over Braga on Sunday night, Amorim expressed both his readiness and his awareness of the tough road ahead.
“I’m not naive; I know it’s going to be very different, very difficult,” Amorim stated after his final match in Portugal. “I’m at peace now, focused on my new job and ready for the challenge.”
Manchester United, a club with a rich history, has faced struggles in recent years since the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson retired. Under Ferguson, the club won 13 Premier League titles, five FA Cups, and two UEFA Champions League trophies. Since his departure in 2013, United has gone through a series of managers, with Jose Mourinho being the only one to win silverware — the Europa League, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup.
Amorim’s arrival marks yet another new chapter for United, which hasn’t reclaimed the dominance of Ferguson’s era. Amorim leaves Sporting CP at the top of Liga Portugal, having won all 11 of their games this season. He apologized for his mid-season departure, saying, “I felt it was my time. I know it’s hard to replicate what I had here, but I am ready for the exposure and pressure.”
The Portuguese coach begins his tenure with high expectations and hopes to help restore Manchester United to its former glory.
