Ashwini Akkunji, an international athlete and award winning sports person, called for more opportunities for athletes in India, particularly by increasing the sports quota in the postal department. Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 38th All India Postal Badminton Tournament at Chamundi Vihar Stadium on Thursday, Akkunji encouraged everyone to participate in sports training during their free time for better physical and mental wellbeing.
S. Rajendra Kumar, Chief Postmaster General of Karnataka Circle, also spoke about the importance of badminton and hoped for greater recognition of local sports like ball badminton.
A commemorative cover was released to mark the 25th anniversary of the Chamundi Vihar Indoor Stadium. The tournament saw 194 athletes from 20 postal circles competing in seven categories.
