TMC may replace municipality heads in areas where BJP performed better in LS polls

Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal may soon undergo an organizational reshuffle, with changes likely in the leadership of several municipal bodies. According to party sources, TMC General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee has recommended to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee that leadership positions in municipalities, particularly those where the BJP outperformed TMC in this year’s Lok Sabha elections, be reconsidered.

Insiders suggest that at least 69 municipalities, where BJP secured more votes than TMC, will likely see leadership changes. The reshuffle could extend to other areas, even where TMC performed better in the polls. However, Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), despite BJP winning in 48 of its 144 wards, might not be included in the reshuffle due to the party’s success in both Kolkata Lok Sabha seats.

Additionally, Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim, a key ally of Mamata Banerjee, is unlikely to be affected by the reshuffle, given his close ties with the leadership. The reshuffle is being seen as part of TMC’s strategy to improve performance ahead of the 2026 state Assembly elections.
