Former Madhya Pradesh minister and BJP MLA Bhupendra Singh has accused the state police of illegally tapping the phones of his associates. Singh, who represents the Khurai assembly seat in Sagar district, claimed that several individuals, including his supporters, were being harassed through unauthorized phone tapping without approval from higher authorities. This allegation has stirred controversy, especially as it targets the state government led by his own party.

Singh alleged that the Sagar district police were carrying out the taps under the direction of certain BJP leaders, a claim denied by police officials. He raised these concerns during a meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla, who promised an investigation. Singh further stated that the illegal phone tapping had been ongoing for the past five months.

While Sagar Superintendent of Police Vikas Sahwal refuted the claims, asserting that phone tapping was not within his jurisdiction, Singh, a former home minister, insisted that he knew how the process worked and demanded to know who was instructing the local police. The Congress party seized on this issue, with Rajya Sabha MP Vivek Tankha criticizing the BJP for misusing power.
