Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence (MND) reported a notable increase in Chinese military activity around the island early Monday, the MND detected 44 aircraft, six naval vessels, and one official ship from China operating near Taiwan.
Of these, 37 aircraft crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait, entering Taiwan’s southeastern and southwestern Air Defence Identification Zones (ADIZ). The MND confirmed the heightened presence, stating, “We have monitored the situation and responded accordingly.”
Taiwan’s armed forces remain vigilant, with combat air patrols, naval ships, and coastal missile systems prepared to respond to these incursions. This surge in Chinese military maneuvers is part of a recent trend that has raised concerns about regional stability as China continues to assert its claims over Taiwan.
In recent weeks, Taiwan has witnessed an uptick in Chinese military flights into its ADIZ, prompting a robust response from its defense forces, including increased airspace security. This escalation is viewed as a show of force by Beijing, potentially aimed at intimidating Taiwan amidst ongoing diplomatic support from the United States and other international allies.
Taiwanese officials have condemned these military operations as direct threats to the island’s sovereignty and regional peace. The MND emphasizes the need for stability in the area and reaffirms its commitment to defending Taiwan’s territorial integrity.
