Authorities have launched a major search operation for an 11-year-old boy who was swept out to sea while swimming off the Central Coast, approximately 60 km north of Sydney. The incident occurred on Sunday evening around 5:15 PM local time.
Witnesses alerted emergency services after the child was caught in a current while crossing The Entrance Channel with his father and three siblings. The father attempted to rescue the boy but was unable to reach him.
A search operation involving land, sea, and air resources was initiated but suspended at nightfall. It resumed at 8 AM local time on Monday as police continue their efforts to locate the missing child.
