Gurugram
Residents of 294 illegal colonies in Gurugram may soon receive relief, as the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has completed a survey and submitted its findings to the government. Once approved, these colonies could be regularized, allowing residents access to basic services like water, roads, sewage systems, and streetlights for the first time.
In February 2023, the Urban Local Bodies (ULB) Department directed the MCG to assess these colonies according to specific standards. The survey looked at factors such as road width, land area, and land ownership. This thorough evaluation took eight months and included areas like Maruti Kunj, Shriram Colony, Saraswati Enclave Extension, and Ashok Vihar Phase-2.
To be eligible for regularization, the government requires that each colony have a six-meter-wide road and cover at least two acres. Additionally, the land cannot be part of any government scheme or agricultural area. The MCG has identified the colonies meeting these criteria and has sent a proposal for their regularization.
The District Town Planner (DTP) confirmed that the survey is complete and the report is now with the headquarters. He stated, Colonies that meet the rules will be announced for regularization from the headquarters.
