Afghan police have apprehended two alleged drug smugglers in Kapisa province on Monday, seizing 29 kilograms of illicit drugs from their possession. The arrests occurred during a raid on a house in the Hesa Duwum Kohistan district, prompted by a tip-off to the counter-narcotics police.
The confiscated drugs included 1 kilogram of opium poppy and 28 kilograms of hashish. The detainees are accused of illegally possessing and attempting to smuggle the drugs outside the province.
The Afghan caretaker government has reiterated its commitment to combat the drug trade and eliminate the drug menace in the country, which has historically been a significant producer of opium.
