The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has named former Australian pacer Jason Gillespie as the head coach for Pakistan’s upcoming white-ball series against Australia. This follows the resignation of Gary Kirsten, whose departure was officially accepted by the PCB on Monday.
Gillespie, who currently serves as the head coach of Pakistan’s red-ball team, will now take on the responsibility of leading the ODI and T20I squads. The series, starting November 4 in Melbourne, will include three ODIs and three T20Is.
Kirsten’s stint with Pakistan, which began in April 2024, was marked by mixed results. Under his leadership, Pakistan faced a series loss against England and disappointing early exits in the T20 World Cup, including unexpected defeats to the United States and India.
In response to the team’s struggles, the PCB overhauled its selection panel, appointing a new committee of former players, including Aaqib Javed and Aleem Dar. The coaching staff and captain were reportedly not consulted during these changes.
Additionally, wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan has been appointed as Pakistan’s new white-ball captain, replacing Babar Azam. Allrounder Salman Ali Agha has been named Rizwan’s deputy for the upcoming tour.
