Mexico City
Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz secured a dominant victory at the Mexico City Grand Prix on Sunday night, marking his third win in five races and pushing Ferrari past Red Bull into second place in the constructors’ standings. Meanwhile, McLaren’s Lando Norris criticized Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, calling him “dangerous” after several on-track incidents.
The tension between Norris and Verstappen escalated on lap 10 following a safety car restart due to a crash involving Alex Albon and Yuki Tsunoda. As the two drivers raced side-by-side at Turn Four, Verstappen pushed Norris off the track, resulting in a time penalty for the reigning champion. Later, Verstappen was penalized again after another aggressive move at Turn Eight.
Norris expressed frustration over the radio, saying, “I was ahead the whole way through the corner. This guy is dangerous. I had to avoid a crash.” Despite these setbacks, Verstappen finished sixth.
While the spotlight was on Norris and Verstappen’s clash, Sainz delivered a flawless performance, winning from pole position. His Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc finished third, also earning the fastest lap, helping Ferrari close in on McLaren at the top of the constructors’ standings. McLaren remains in the lead, but Ferrari’s momentum has tightened the competition.
Norris secured second place after Leclerc made a late mistake on lap 62, running wide and allowing the McLaren driver to overtake. Behind them, Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell had a close battle, with Hamilton finishing fifth.
