Indian para-badminton players delivered a stellar performance at the Japan Para Badminton International on Sunday, claiming an impressive total of 24 medals, including six golds, nine silvers, and nine bronzes.
Sivarajan Solaimalai and Sukant Kadam led the charge with standout performances. Sivarajan clinched gold in the men’s singles SH6 class and later partnered with Sudarsan Saravanakumar Muthusamy to secure gold in men’s doubles.
Sukant Kadam also had a remarkable run, winning gold in the men’s singles SL4 category by defeating fellow Indian Tarun 21-12, 21-10. Sukant added a silver medal in men’s doubles (SL3-SL4) with Dinesh Rajaiah after a hard-fought match against compatriots Umesh Vikram Kumar and Surya Kant Yadav, ending 5-21, 22-20, 16-21.
In the women’s events, Manisha Ramdass won gold in the women’s SU5 category, defeating Japan’s Mamiko Toyoda 21-12, 21-18. Neeraj, competing in the women’s SL3 category, secured silver after losing to Coraline Bergeron. Neeraj also claimed a silver in mixed doubles with Surya Kant Yadav in the SL3-SU5 category.
In other notable performances, Paralympic champion Kumar Nitesh took home silver in the SL3 men’s singles final after a close battle with Japan’s Daisuke Fujihara. Hardik Makkar and Ruthick Ragupati secured gold in men’s doubles SU5, while Hardik also earned silver and bronze in men’s singles SU5. Abu Hubaida and Prem Kumar Ale won bronze in men’s doubles WH1-WH2, and Alphia James claimed silver in women’s singles WH2.
