India held New Zealand to a thrilling 3-3 draw in the Sultan of Johor Cup on Friday, thanks to goals from Gurjot Singh, Rohit, and Talem Priyobarta. New Zealand’s Jonty Elmes scored a hat-trick but couldn’t secure the win for his team.
The match kicked off with an impressive goal from Gurjot Singh in the 6th minute, assisted by Sukhvinder. Despite strong defense from India, Elmes equalized for New Zealand in the 17th minute. India quickly regained the lead with Rohit’s penalty corner goal.
The intensity continued as New Zealand struck back again with Elmes converting a penalty corner in the third quarter, completing his hat-trick shortly after to put New Zealand ahead 3-2. India, however, missed several opportunities, including a penalty corner in the fourth quarter.
With just 90 seconds remaining, India earned a penalty corner and executed a well-planned variation, allowing Priyobarta to score and tie the game. Currently leading the points table with 10 points, India’s chances of reaching the final depend on the outcomes of the matches between Great Britain and Japan, as well as Australia and Malaysia lateron Friday.
