England, Germany, Brazil to participate in Kho Kho WC

England, Germany, Brazil, and the Netherlands are among 24 nations confirmed to compete in the first-ever Kho Kho World Cup, set to take place from January 13-19, 2025, at the Indira Gandhi International Stadium in New Delhi, the national federation announced on Friday.

The tournament will feature both men’s and women’s divisions, with 16 teams competing in each. Participating countries span across continents, showcasing the sport’s growing global reach. From Africa, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, and Uganda will be present, while Asia will see India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, South Korea, and Sri Lanka participating. Europe’s representation includes England, Germany, the Netherlands, and Poland, while Canada and the United States will represent North America. South America will feature Brazil and Peru, and Australia and New Zealand will carry the banner for Oceania.

‘This historic championship represents a massive leap for Kho Kho, transforming it from a beloved local sport to a global phenomenon,’ said Sudhanshu Mittal, President of the Kho Kho Federation of India (KKFI). He added that India is leading the charge in promoting Kho Kho on the world stage.

KKFI General Secretary MS Tyagi highlighted that the participation of 24 nations reflects the sport’s increasing international appeal. ‘This World Cup will be a milestone in making Kho Kho a truly global game,’ he said.
